EP17: Inside the Helmet - Justin Carafa
Justin Carafa is a guy that nearly everyone in the motocross paddock knows or knows of – and for good reason. He started his professional motocross and supercross career 18 years ago, and though he’s a bit more selective these days about the races he does, he can still keep up with some of the fastest riders in the country.
Over the course of his career, Justin has raced motocross, supercross and offroad events at the highest levels in Australia, and spent several years racing both indoors and outdoors in Europe. The riders he has gone bar to bar with on the track includes some absolute icons of the sport, and it’s a privilege having him here in Moto Asylum with me to record this episode of Inside the Helmet
EP15: Inside the Helmet - Zane Mackintosh
Joining me in-studio for this episode of Inside the Helmet, is Zane Mackintosh.
There are plenty of laughs as we discuss Zane's experiences living the motolife, his first season racing the MX2 class of the ProMX Championship and his preparation for the upcoming Aussie Supercross. We also breakdown the cost putting together a program to race the whole series as a privateer, and how to make it a sustainable career.
As well as being a rider, Zane is clearly also a fan and student of the sport, so we delve into all of the other things that are currently happening in the wider moto scene - from Motocross of Nations, the unanswered questions about the "World" Supermotocross series which kicks off this weekend, and the awesome breaking news regarding the World Supercross Championship.
Hope you enjoy it!

This is show #14 of the Mental4Moto podcast, and joining me in-studio for this one is another cool industry guest and just plain rad human, Dean Mosig.

On top of this, Dean is also a certified riding coach, content creator, and was recently invited to take part in product testing for the new Yamaha E-MTB, as well as the soon-to-be released Stark Varg E-MX bike.
As a rider, Dean is a long-time MX1 A-Grade motocross racer, former National-level supercross racer, and now at 32 years of age, just raced his first ever ProMX National in the 30+ class at Coolum in QLD.
Over the course of this episode, Dean shares some of his insight into the industry and we also discuss some spicy topics - on occasion even going down the rabbit hole a bit! From the evolution of electric motorcycles, the mental benefits of riding, motorcycle sales during and post-COVID, the monetization of digital content, media coverage of the sport, the local racing scene, ProMX, Supercross and WSX, and much, much more.
EP13: Inside the Helmet - Liam Jackson
Check out this episode of "Inside the Helmet", with MX1 athlete, Liam Jackson.

In this episode we go Inside the Helmet with privateer WBR Yamaha, Oates MX rider, Braeden Krebs.
At 19 years of age, Braeden is in his second year of racing professionally in the absolutely stacked MX2 class. EP10: Inside the Helmet - Liam Owens
This year, the hotly contested Penrite ProMX Championship’s MX3 class has seen the emergence of a new generation of future Aussie motocross superstars.
One of those prospects is T-Dub Husqvarna’s Liam Owens. At just 15 years of age, Liam has achieve multiple overall podium finishes during this year’s Penrite ProMX Championship. We catch up with Liam to talk about his experiences racing overseas, the rising pool of talent in Australian motocross, and Liam’s goals, under the guidance of his mentor, experienced MX1 legend Todd Waters, to one day earn a full-time ride in the MXGP’s premiere class.
EP9: Industry Guest - Stephen Tuff
I’m genuinely excited to bring you our Industry Guest for this episode, Stephen Tuff, who has joined me here today in the Wolf Den.
"Tuffy" started out his career in the industry working for the biggest dirt-bike print magazine in the country – Australasian Dirt Bike, or ADB as it is more commonly known, way back in 1998.
Since then, Tuffy’s 20-plus year career in the industry has been diverse. A long-time motocross and off-road motorcycling journalist, his career has also seen him working as a photographer, assistant editor, brand manager, and more recently, a bike tester. He also remains a regular contributor to ADB.
Tuffy role has largely been that of a story-teller, using his talents to bring to life stories about events, bikes and other riders, through his words and photos.
In career that has been largely focused on shining the spotlight on those around him, though, the adventures that Tuffy has had in the process, the people he’s met and worked with, and the places he’s been, make his own story just as cool and interesting as anyone he’s covered as a journalist throughout his time in the industry.
EP8: Inside the Helmet - Maddy Brown
In this episode of the Mental4Moto podcast, we go "Inside the Helmet" with Maddy Brown.
A three-time Aussie Women’s MX Champion, we chat about how she got into the sport, what motivates her, and what it was like heading over to Europe to race the FIM World Motocross Championship earlier in her career.

EP7: 2023 ProMX Breakdown #2

We get New Zealand motocross legend, Cody Cooper, on the line to give us his thoughts about this year's championship so far, and chat about his amazing career. At 39, Cody's perspective on the sport is refreshing, and certainly a little different to most other younger riders!
We also speak to the reigning MX1 Champion, Aaron Tanti, about his rollercoaster of a season. Tanti came into Wodonga with the red plate, riding a wave of confidence, but after a bike failure in moto 1, finds himself with a 28 point deficit to make up heading into Round 4. Can Aaron put it on the top step of the box again this weekend at Maitland, like he did last year, and start clawing his way back into title contention?

We also chat about the impending start to the AMA supercross season, the three Aussie riders set to do battle against the US riders in the West Coast 250 class this weekend, and make some predictions about which riders will rise to the top of the 450 class in 2023.
I’ve raced motocross against Trav and the banter we share on the track naturally made it's way into the studio. I hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it!
