The ProMX Championship is now underway! Deathgrip Product's Trav Coward once again joins me in-studio to break down all of the action from Wonthaggi, and figure out what it all means for the Championship as we head into Rd.2 at Horsham this weekend.
Kayden Strode also calls in to talk about his breakout ride in the MX3 class, the event in general, and give us some of his predictions moving forward.
This was definitely a fun one to record, so please have a listen, give us your thoughts, and make sure you subscribe to Mental4Moto on your favourite podcast platform!
EP17: Inside the Helmet - Justin Carafa
Justin Carafa is a guy that nearly everyone in the motocross paddock knows or knows of – and for good reason. He started his professional motocross and supercross career 18 years ago, and though he’s a bit more selective these days about the races he does, he can still keep up with some of the fastest riders in the country.
Over the course of his career, Justin has raced motocross, supercross and offroad events at the highest levels in Australia, and spent several years racing both indoors and outdoors in Europe. The riders he has gone bar to bar with on the track includes some absolute icons of the sport, and it’s a privilege having him here in Moto Asylum with me to record this episode of Inside the Helmet
EP14: Industry Guest - Dean Mosig
This is show #14 of the Mental4Moto podcast, and joining me in-studio for this one is another cool industry guest and just plain rad human, Dean Mosig.
Dean has been around the motocross scene for much of his life. His primary role in the industry for the past 6 years has been as a Senior Sales Coordinator and Yamaha Brand Ambassador at Peter Stevens Motorcycles. On top of this, Dean is also a certified riding coach, content creator, and was recently invited to take part in product testing for the new Yamaha E-MTB, as well as the soon-to-be released Stark Varg E-MX bike.
As a rider, Dean is a long-time MX1 A-Grade motocross racer, former National-level supercross racer, and now at 32 years of age, just raced his first ever ProMX National in the 30+ class at Coolum in QLD.
Over the course of this episode, Dean shares some of his insight into the industry and we also discuss some spicy topics - on occasion even going down the rabbit hole a bit! From the evolution of electric motorcycles, the mental benefits of riding, motorcycle sales during and post-COVID, the monetization of digital content, media coverage of the sport, the local racing scene, ProMX, Supercross and WSX, and much, much more.
EP13: Inside the Helmet - Liam Jackson
Check out this episode of "Inside the Helmet", with MX1 athlete, Liam Jackson.
At just 18 years of age, Liam is one of the up and comers on the Oates MX program, and he has already shown a few flashes of brilliance in what has been his first full year racing in the MX1 class. Liam has scored points at all but one of the ProMX rounds, and his best results include impressive 8/14 moto finishes for a 10th place overall at Round 3 in the mudfest at Wodonga earlier this year.
During the episode Liam responds to the recent smack talk directed his way and lays down the gauntlet to his Oates MX team mate Braeden Krebs as they prepare to go to battle at QMP and Coolum over the next two weekends. We also chat about his experiences racing the Hattah Desert Race, in which he finished 38th outright this year, ProMX prize money, and the prospect of racing Supercross later in 2023.
EP12: Inside the Helmet - Madi Healey
Ahead of the final two rounds of the Penrite ProMX Championship, where the women of the MXW class will again go to battle, we catch up with Shepparton Motorcycles, BCP Honda Australia team rider, Madi Healey, for our latest "Inside the Helmet" feature podcast.
Half-way through her second-year in the senior ranks, Madi currently sits 4th in the points standings, and, beneath the bright and bubbly personality, Madi's drive and determination to succeed are unquestionable as she seeks to move up and cement her position as a true contender in the ProMX MXW class.
We chat to Madi about how she got into racing motocross, her experiences over the years taking on the Hattah Desert Race, current and long term goals in the sport, the mental game of racing, and a bunch of other moto-related topics.
EP11: Inside the Helmet - Braeden Krebs
In this episode we go Inside the Helmet with privateer WBR Yamaha, Oates MX rider, Braeden Krebs.
At 19 years of age, Braeden is in his second year of racing professionally in the absolutely stacked MX2 class. He's had some decent results so far, and is looking to end the year on an even stronger note as he steps up to the MX1 class for the remaining two rounds of this year's ProMX Championship.
During this episode, we cover a lot of interesting ground, including the challenges that privateer riders face racing on the National circuit, the importance of confidence and the mental aspects of racing, and what it's like training under Jades Oates as part of the Oates MX program.
