EP16: Industry Guest - Mick Sinclair
With the 2023 Aussie Supercross about to kick off in Radelaide, joining me in studio for this episode is one of the key players pulling the strings behind scenes – General Manager of AME – Mick Sinclair.
Mick’s been putting out a bunch of media over the last few weeks, giving updates on the range of great initiatives AME have cooked up for the 2023 Championship, which is looking to be just the first step in a bright new era of Aussie Supercross. We’ll of course be touching on not only what those initiatives are, but also the reasons behind how and why they came about.
In addition to his work on this year's Aussie Supercross Championship, Mick’s spent the last two decades working with moto-industry icons such as Crusty Demons of Dirt, Nitro Circus, Fox Australia, Peter Stevens Harley Heaven and the World Supercross Championship (WSX). So we'll be chatting about all of those things, and get to learn a bit about Mick and his journey leading up to his current role in the industry.
EP13: Inside the Helmet - Liam Jackson
Check out this episode of "Inside the Helmet", with MX1 athlete, Liam Jackson.
At just 18 years of age, Liam is one of the up and comers on the Oates MX program, and he has already shown a few flashes of brilliance in what has been his first full year racing in the MX1 class. Liam has scored points at all but one of the ProMX rounds, and his best results include impressive 8/14 moto finishes for a 10th place overall at Round 3 in the mudfest at Wodonga earlier this year.
During the episode Liam responds to the recent smack talk directed his way and lays down the gauntlet to his Oates MX team mate Braeden Krebs as they prepare to go to battle at QMP and Coolum over the next two weekends. We also chat about his experiences racing the Hattah Desert Race, in which he finished 38th outright this year, ProMX prize money, and the prospect of racing Supercross later in 2023.
EP10: Inside the Helmet - Liam Owens
This year, the hotly contested Penrite ProMX Championship’s MX3 class has seen the emergence of a new generation of future Aussie motocross superstars.
One of those prospects is T-Dub Husqvarna’s Liam Owens. At just 15 years of age, Liam has achieve multiple overall podium finishes during this year’s Penrite ProMX Championship. His performances caught the attention of the French-based Bud Racing Kawasaki outfit, who invited Liam to come to Europe to race two rounds of the MXGP’s European Championship in the EMX250 class as part of the team.
We catch up with Liam to talk about his experiences racing overseas, the rising pool of talent in Australian motocross, and Liam’s goals, under the guidance of his mentor, experienced MX1 legend Todd Waters, to one day earn a full-time ride in the MXGP’s premiere class.
EP9: Industry Guest - Stephen Tuff
I’m genuinely excited to bring you our Industry Guest for this episode, Stephen Tuff, who has joined me here today in the Wolf Den.
"Tuffy" started out his career in the industry working for the biggest dirt-bike print magazine in the country – Australasian Dirt Bike, or ADB as it is more commonly known, way back in 1998.
Since then, Tuffy’s 20-plus year career in the industry has been diverse. A long-time motocross and off-road motorcycling journalist, his career has also seen him working as a photographer, assistant editor, brand manager, and more recently, a bike tester. He also remains a regular contributor to ADB.
Tuffy role has largely been that of a story-teller, using his talents to bring to life stories about events, bikes and other riders, through his words and photos.
In career that has been largely focused on shining the spotlight on those around him, though, the adventures that Tuffy has had in the process, the people he’s met and worked with, and the places he’s been, make his own story just as cool and interesting as anyone he’s covered as a journalist throughout his time in the industry.
EP8: Inside the Helmet - Maddy Brown
In this episode of the Mental4Moto podcast, we go "Inside the Helmet" with Maddy Brown.
A three-time Aussie Women’s MX Champion, we chat about how she got into the sport, what motivates her, and what it was like heading over to Europe to race the FIM World Motocross Championship earlier in her career.
Maddy also gives us her thoughts about the calibre of the current ProMX WMX class, the improving media coverage, and some of the challenges of putting together a program to race the National series.
EP7: 2023 ProMX Breakdown #2
In this episode of the Mental4Moto ProMX Breakdown Show we cover all the juicy topics arising from the Round 3 mudder that took place at Wodonga on April 16th.
We get New Zealand motocross legend, Cody Cooper, on the line to give us his thoughts about this year's championship so far, and chat about his amazing career. At 39, Cody's perspective on the sport is refreshing, and certainly a little different to most other younger riders!
We also speak to the reigning MX1 Champion, Aaron Tanti, about his rollercoaster of a season. Tanti came into Wodonga with the red plate, riding a wave of confidence, but after a bike failure in moto 1, finds himself with a 28 point deficit to make up heading into Round 4. Can Aaron put it on the top step of the box again this weekend at Maitland, like he did last year, and start clawing his way back into title contention?
Once again, Deathgrip Products' Travis Coward joins me as cohost in the 'Wolf Den" for this episode, which is jam packed with laughs, and plenty of controversy!
EP4: AMX Open Review Show
In this episode of the Mental4Moto podcast, we break down what was an epic weekend of racing at the AMX MX Open, and check in with the winners of the MX1 Pro Open class, Honda Racing’s Kyle Webster, and the Pro Woman’s class, Empire Kawasaki rider Taylah McCutcheon!
EP2: Industry Guest - Travis Coward
Our industry guest in this episode is Travis Coward, founder and owner of Death Grip gloves.
If you are a bit of a gear nerd like me, I think you’ll like this episode, as we take a deep dive into the world of motocross gloves, and how Trav came up with the idea for Death Grip.
We also chat about the impending start to the AMA supercross season, the three Aussie riders set to do battle against the US riders in the West Coast 250 class this weekend, and make some predictions about which riders will rise to the top of the 450 class in 2023.
I’ve raced motocross against Trav and the banter we share on the track naturally made it's way into the studio. I hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it!
EP1: WSX Domination?
In this episode of the Mental4Moto podcast, I go through 10 reasons why the World Supercross Championship (WSX) will become the most prestigious Supercross series on the planet. We also cover Ken Roczen signing with HEP Suzuki for 2023, the recently announced 2023 WSX Schedule, and why it’s been a month since my last pod!
